Robert Barra Biography
Robert Barra was educated at Rhode Island
School of Design and the Arts Students League of New York, and he is
listed in Who’s Who in American Art.
Barra is an elected member of the National
Arts Club in New York City, Allied Artists of America, and the winner of
many awards including “The Windsor and Newton Award of Excellence for
Oil Painting”. He has entered major juried shows throughout the United
States, and his work has appeared in many American publications,
including Gourmet Magazine, The New Yorker, Saturday Review and The New
York Times.
He has exhibited in New York at the Salmagundi
Club, the National Arts Club, and the James Beard House. His work has
also been exhibited by The Butler Institute of America, The Newport
Museum (R.I.), The Ridgewood Art Institute (N.J.), Springfield Art
Museum (Ohio), Museum of Texas Tech University, Huntsville Museum of Art
(AL), Bergstrom-Mahler Museum (WI), Danville Museum of Fine Arts and
History (VA), and the McAllen International Museum (TX).
“My new paintings are individuals in
activities of everyday life: crossing a street, riding a bike home, or
out for a walk. Simplified in open space and broken down in flat
shapes.”
His paintings are
in private collections in the United States, Europe and Mexico
