KRISTIN
STASHENKO
After studying illustration and painting at the Massachusetts College of
Art and Design, Kristin worked as a commercial artist. During that
period she produced hundreds of greeting card and stationary designs in
watercolor. Working for several years as an illustrator formed a good
basis for branching out to more creative artistic expression.
Initially, Kristin’s medium of choice was transparent watercolor. She
was able to translate her love of light and color with its natural
luminosity. She has since expanded her media using both the opaque
watercolor gouache and acrylic. This allowed her to paint larger and
bolder.
Kristin’s subject matter began to transition from natural landscapes to
architectural themes and interior spaces. Their geometric lines provided
a perfect template to render patterns of light and color in a more
abstract way. Integrating representational and abstract concepts has
expanded the possibilities of unique, personal interpretation by the
viewer. In this way her intent and perspective does not limit the
reality of what others see.
As an artist, Kristin is interested in exploring. She is always looking
for a new way to interpret what she sees with color, point of view, or
focal point. She understands that people have different ways of seeing
and communicating.
Last year, Kristin achieved Signature membership in the National
Watercolor Society, the New England Watercolor Society and the Rhode
Island Watercolor Society. In addition, she is also an artist member of
the Copley Society of Art and the Cambridge Art Association. She has
received numerous awards including top honors in the 2014/2015
International Exhibit of the National Watercolor Society. This painting
is currently in the traveling show touring the United States. She had
the particular honor of being accepted into the American Watercolor
Society show in 2013 and having her painting exhibited at the
prestigious Salmagundi Club in NYC in its annual AWS show. |
