“My artistic philosophy has evolved over the years. I no longer feel the need to create something that mimics my subject matter exactly. It’s in the interpretation, and the deliberate breaking down of my subject matter into areas of light, shadow, colors and shapes that excites and inspires me.”
A lifelong resident of Connecticut, Douglas AmEnde has had a love affair with Cape Cod and the sea since he was a child, spending summer vacations here.
Involved in the arts for many years, his artistic style has evolved over time from intricate pen and ink drawings, to a successful career as a travel and fine art photographer, and finally to the unique paintings he creates in acrylic. Although his subject matter is often inspired by one or more of his photographs, the works are not a photographic technique, but rather a meticulous process of interpretation, using swirls of vibrant color, shapes and composition.
AmEnde’s work has received numerous awards in both local and national competitions and has been featured in a number of publications, including Cape Cod Life magazine and DownEast magazine.
