“When I am painting outdoors, I lose myself in what I see and also in what I feel within the setting. I feel an urgency that is as much physical as emotional to try and convey the feeling of being there.
”Rokhaya Waring was born in 1966 in Santa Fe, NM, of a French mother and an American father. She grew up with French as a first language, and spent the first few years of her life in Italy and France before settling on Boston’s North Shore. Although she spends the majority of her time in the U.S., she returns for part of each year to paint and exhibit in Forcalquier, France – a small, medievel village in the heart of Provence. Rokhaya has painted in several other European countries, on a kibbutz in Israel, and in Martinique, and in 1993, spent several months working on commissions of house and garden scenes in San Francisco. Her vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes reflect the constant movement of nature within the landscapes she paints.
Rokhaya holds a B.A. in Art History and the Visual Arts from Princeton University and has been a member of the Copley Society of Art since 1995. She has exhibited in solo and group shows in Boston, New York, Paris and Provence. Her works are held in private collections worldwide. Notable private collectors include Andre Agassi and Brooke Shields.
